And this is apparently an in-game shot?!? Console graphics have come a long way.

The only thing that gave it away was the shadows but I was looking to see something.
PC master race gamers can shove off, because for a console they have come a long way. Sure, PCs were doing this 3 years ago; but the mass public doesn't PC game.
12 year olds will open up Xbox Ones with this game and go "WOOOOOOOOOOW" and then proceed to crash into each other right off the line.

While that's cool, it won't be as realistic as the official F1 games (that is to say, hard as fuck). Also, there's only 14 tracks. On the plus side they do have Circuit de la Sarthe but apparently they moved it to Antarctica since there is no night racing in F5. 24hrs of Day. It all reeks of being rushed to make launch day.
Also it's cool that they have Mt. Panorama, but NO Nürburgring?! WTF.

And as a person who spent quite a lot of time tinkering with my computers in my youth, I just don't have time to give a crap anymore. I'm content with hooking up a device straight out of the box and start playing with it within 15mins, even with slightly outdated graphics.
Also this.

Yea, to be honest the desire to PC game died the day all my friends got consoles and played that way.
Yes, PC graphics are amazing, BF4 is pretty astonishing; but I'm getting it for the One or PS4, not sure which.
I play where my friends are, I play where its easy. I go where parties can be made and we can all yell at each other over NHL 14 or what have you.

Forget graphics, PC Master Race Jalops care about realism and Forza has never cut it. Gran Turismo is slightly closer, but actual SIM games are a PC affair.
Actually, don't forget graphics, I LOVE the look of Forza 5 and may have to pick it up eventually based a lot on that, but don't be fooled into thinking it's a sim.

I'd give it a semi-sim title at best. It is good enough for 99.999% of all racers out there.
iRacing, Project Cars...I have to say who gives a flying shit about hardcore games like that? Those aren't system tent poles. They are too niche to care about.
They are so much more superior and honestly the only way you should be playing a racing game, but not everyone shares our mentality about that.
The public wants entertainment and Turn 10 knows how to leverage entertainment. That and I still find GT5 to be unforgivably boring, GT6 better be more 'fun'. Maybe you know what I mean by fun. GT5 felt so sterile and...just lacking a soul.

Project Cars is said to be headed to the Xbox One and PS4. That's good to hear as a potential Xbox One user myself.

I totally agree with you, but this is Jalopnik, if anybody is going to care, WE are. I have played each GT and Forza game since their respective launches. I only mentioned the PC sims because the PC Master Race was brought up. I am an equal opportunity Master Race. And you mentioned Project CARS which will be for all the systems and looks fucking incredible. And CARS was made to some extent by Croudfunding, proving there is a sizable hardcore sim market.
There were certainly many flaws in GT5 to be sure, but I still stay up every Wednesday night to play the new weekly "Seasonal" races. I might cancel my Xbone preorder since I'm not too excited anymore for Forza. I AM excited for GT6 though. GT has always been a bit quirky, and I'm sure GT6 will have that too.

Was that Kimi's Lotus tearing down the Mulsanne straight at the end? I might have to consider betraying my PlayStation loyalty......

Very annoying indeed. I'm not planning on getting either a PS4 or Xbone because of the way gaming is headed in that regard.

I've played the official F1 games with a microsoft steering wheel, even with all aid's turned off they aren't that hard. The learning curve is mayyybe 15 minutes to learn throttle control and you are playing like any other racing game.

I guess I haven't tried it with a wheel for a few years, but it was more of an issue to be consistent enough to not screw up for 15 laps to win a short race, let alone a full length one.

The endurance races in Forza with damage/wear on are just as nerve racking.

For sure, also not using replays.

I like how fm5 is approaching replays. You can't disable them to get a credit bonus, but, they directly sap the amount of credits you get from a race based on how much you use the feature. It actually encourages people to crash less rather then the all or nothing mindset in previous games.
